The Welcome Home Westchester Campaign Reacts to Governor Hochul’s FY2023 Executive Budget

Below is a statement by Timothy Foley, CEO and Executive Vice President of the Building and Realty Institute, on behalf of the Welcome Home Westchester campaign in reaction to Governor Hochul’s Executive Budget, particularly highlighting how it will affect the housing community.

“With her newly released FY2023 Executive Budget, the Governor has shown a commitment to investing in much-needed housing across the state. The ambitious $25 billion, 5-year housing plan, with its lofty goal to create and preserve 100,000 affordable homes, including 10,000 homes with support services for vulnerable populations, combined with a commitment to property tax relief, could very well be a game-changer for high-cost, high-tax communities within Westchester. We encourage the Governor, the legislature, and local leaders to also take a strong look at the regulatory and local land use barriers that still hamper building the housing we need. That will ensure that Westchester’s working families benefit from this level of investment, rather than see it flow to communities where it is easier to build accessory dwelling units, transit-oriented development, and other ways of filling our housing shortage.”
