(April 25, 2025) The Welcome Home Westchester campaign applauds the efforts of Westchester County and County Executive Kenneth W. Jenkins, who outlined some of the recent work toward building the affordable housing our county needs during his April 23 State of the County address.
“Our county continues to do everything it can to support the development of affordable housing, whether that’s building new housing units or preserving the current affordable housing stock that exists throughout our municipalities,” County Executive Jenkins remarked.
Welcome Home Westchester encourages Westchester County to continue its strong efforts to bring more affordable housing for our residents and essential workforce.
During his address, Mr. Jenkins noted the Land Acquisition Act that was approved by the Board of Legislators in January, which allocated $10 million to purchase property in White Plains for the development of 108 affordable home ownership units and 89 parking spaces. He also acknowledged $7 million in county funding toward the four public housing authorities and more than $90 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that will be used “to launch a first in the nation affordable housing program” for individuals at or below 65% AMI across 15 developments and 2,000 units total.
A newly-designed HomeSeeker platform will be launched by the county soon to help individuals and families search for fair and affordable housing, according to Mr. Jenkins.
Welcome Home Westchester looks forward to our continued collaboration with county, local and state leaders to address the critical affordable housing shortage. We believe that doing so will move us closer to a Westchester that is welcoming to all who wish to live and work here – to our shared prosperity!
