(July 9, 2025) After years of working closely with the community to determine both the needs of the Village and wishes of Pelham’s residents, the culmination of Pelham Green’s successful public-private partnership was unveiled in June.
The milestone ribbon-cutting of the new Pelham Municipal Center, which now houses the Village’s police, fire and administrative departments, also marked the Village’s 50th anniversary.
In addition to the revamped Village building, the project also included 127 units of transit-oriented development (TOD) housing across the street from the Municipal Center, in a building that also features ground-floor retail space and resident and public parking.
“We were facing our own set of challenges back when this project started: an old firehouse too far gone to save, a rusted out parking deck, a village hall and police station that brought the total price tag for repairs close to $20 million – and that’s on top of our longstanding need to revitalize our downtown with new storefronts and new housing to support our local businesses and expand our tax base,” Mayor Chance Mullen said at the dedication ceremony. “Facing these myriad challenges, we sought partnership. And we found it.”
The Village previously received a New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials Achievement Award Honorable Mention for the transit-oriented nature and Energy Star-certified features of the project.
The Pelham Green project and new Municipal Center are an excellent example of community-centered development, strong collaboration between the private and public sectors and green transit-oriented development.
