Welcome Home Westchester has joined a statewide coalition, Unlock New York’s Future, urging the New York State Legislature to modernize the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) as part of the fiscal year 2026-27 budget.
Welcome Home Westchester joins 38 other organizations from around the state, including WHW partner organizations The Building & Realty Institute of the Hudson Valley, Regional Plan Association, Westchester County Association and Westhab; as well as Policy Advisory Committee member Habitat for Humanity NYC & Westchester County.
Unlock New York’s Future includes housing, environmental, transit, community development and civic groups from across New York State. The coalition calls on lawmakers to adopt reforms that reduce unnecessary procedural delays while preserving strong environmental protections. The reforms would help support attainable housing, advance environmental goals by focusing review on projects with the greatest potential harm and prevent procedural hold-ups that delay broadly supported community priorities.
